Some of you likely saw my ‘bow out’ for this round on the round comments; yet here is a submission. I was in a fairly negative place when I wrote that, happens to everyone from time to time — so I did what I could to fix all the things I hated, I killed off the Ape Ass sounding bass, added some distortion and echo to the lead voice and gave it one more shot.
This is what you get.
I must say the genre is hard, I’m a metal playing, 40+, white guy … not a lot of soul happening here. Looking for inspiration, you have the Godfather of Soul … who to me sounds like R&B, and many of the Motown groups that sound like Blues with horns, and then many Soul players are also classified as Funk … so what’s a guy to do when out of his element?
For me, I simply went more to Blues than Soul, but tried to stay lyrical with the lead line.
You see, if no one else submits, I win by default and even thinking I wasn’t going to play this round, I’m still going to be the first submission :)
