Continuing the three Fret War proposed rounds I thought up, I’m using the same chords, but this time we’re sticking in the key of G and doing a rock pentatonic the whole time.
In the another round we had these chords, but they force a key change:
|:G :D :Em :D :G7 :C C#:D Em:D :|
What I did for this round is used the relative minor concept to change them up so they’d work as ambiguous five chords:
|:G5 :A5 :B5 Bb5 : D : G : C C # : D5 E5: D5 :|
With some variation here and there. The we’re mostly sticking with the same chords and staying in the key of G to see how it works.
The challenge in this round then is to figure out how to do two things:
First, find the mix of the above chords that doesn’t deviate too far from the original simple chords. As long as you have the key chromatic elements like the C:C#:D:E progression then you’re set.
Second, play a minor or major pentatonic scale over this whole progression and work out some riffs. The key to the exercise is to warp the chords so that you can stay in G the whole time without being too off.
When you submit this challenge, you’ll need to write out what chords you used just like I have them here.
Now I must admit that this sample cut sorta sucks, but it should give you the general idea.
