So I’ve been learning some Country along with Jazz these days. Part of learning Country is learning to do hybrid picking, where you play bass notes with the pick but use your middle and ring finger for other strings. It’s also a great technique for Jazz too so I’ve been mixing it up between them and slowly getting to where I can pick out Jazz chords and songs using hybrid picking.
This here is a familiar old standard, but I’m doing it slower and using a mixture of hybrid picking and regular chords. Not quite good enough to do a chord melody with it, but that’s the eventual goal.
Another interesting thing about this take is that it’s just my Comanche directly into my DP-008 recorder. I start it off with a bit of reverb and the volume very low, but then I pull the reverb down to nothing as I increase the volume. After that, all the awesome reverb and shimmer you hear is just the guitar.
There’s a couple spots where I hit the chord a bit too hard and clipped it, but I threw a limiter on the final record to lessen it.
