Round 14 : Submission 7 : Little Girl

This is a very simple song with just a ukelele and guitar. It’s meant to be sweet and fun, with the guitar playing a simple little melodic lead and the uke doing some simple rhythm with three chords. I call it little girl because it reminds me of a little girl I know.

It’s just in G, with a G:C chord progression for most of it, and then a switch to C and D during the little chorus. Nothing fancy, except for the walking melody line in the C chord that makes it go C:Cmaj7:C7:C6 which is a common ukelele motif. The guitar is basically just riffing on that and keeping it simple with some rhythm matching here and there.

The guitar is using just what the amp gives it, no other effects. It naturally has that nice reverb sound to it, with a slight twang here and there depending on how I play the note.

This is just two stereo tracks recorded into my DP-008 recorder. The uke was recorded in my living room off the coffee table using the built-in mics on the DP- 008. The guitar is my G&L ASAT going through my Blackheart amp, with mostly the mids and bass turned up, with treble and presence turned down to almost nothing.

I used a PAiA mic I built a while back, which I like, but it picks up way too much room noise. It’s kind of annoying because you can hear my floor creaking as I bounce to the rhythm. I think I’ll get an enclosure for the mic since I like what it picks up from the amp, but just not all of the room.

I’m going to do one more quick one that’s just a simple country thing, also in G.
