This Round Is Done!
Everyone had so much fun with an open ended round that I thought we'd do it again, and do some Funk. Nothing is simpler and yet still as difficult as Funk. Sure, it's the rhythm section's revenge, turning the guitar into a simple rhythm instrument while the drums and bass go off laying down the foundation.
Yet, still, amidst all that driving bass and rhythmic percussion guitarists like Jimmy Nolen find a way to stand out and be memorable.
Your task for Round 3 is to bring the funk as hard as you killed the metal. Your parameters for this round are simple:
That's it, there's no tab for this Round, just a single sample of s simple funk riff showing how to work with the E9 chord. Notice in the sample I slide it, mute it, chunk it, but it's always coming back to the E9.
Over the next week we'll also be posting more shed posts talking about how to use your Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) to make recordings, sound quality, and basics of funk composition and playing. We'll highlight players to check out, and help you get a great well recorded submissions out.
Welcome to Round 3.
