Chad Woolley Submissions
Slide

I bought a slide. So I used it. Not very well. This is a little long, and the production isn’t good, but whatev. Lots of effects, I was playing around to see what Record came with. I got something in this week, that was the goal.

Chunky Slop

Just some chunky slop. Nothing more, nothing less. All one take.

Hoedown

This is a little hoedown riff I love to play. I finger pick it.

Helpful

This round is one take, no effects, so this is just me, guitar, amp, and harmonica, all at the same time, Neil Young style. In fact, the harmonica melody at the end is a complete ripoff of a solo version I heard Neil do of “Helpless”. The guitar is tuned to drop D, capo’d to A, because I could only find my A harmonica…

Dear Lydian

Always running late. I gotta be on a plane in 1.5 hours, but here’s my submission. Did it in about 1 hour. Had to start over because I was confused and playing In Ionion. I think this is Lydian now :)

Cheat

It is midnight, the round ends in 20 minutes, and I just got back into town (#mwrc ftw!)  So, I’m uploading something I did a while back, just so Hank won’t be the only submission in this round.  Maybe cheating, but it’s what you get.

Grease Monkey Blues

This is up my alley. Nothin’ I like better than some slow 12 bar blues in 12/ 8. I even played a little harp (I’m no good but that don’t stop me, just threw some reverb on it).

Twelve Bar Battle

OK, here it is. Bass too. Thanks for the drum track, Hank. I did the solos over your backing track, then wrote my own rhythm parts, so they pretty much match up with yours. I’d like to remix this with both of our rhythm and solo parts, and the trade offs more often, like 12s, then 4s, then 2s. More like Dueling Banjos :)

oops i said i luv u sry DEMO

OK, I barely got something in for this round. Was out of town until 2 days before deadline. (well actually missed the deadline by a few minutes because of Audacity mp3/conversion issues but maybe Zed’ll be nice and let me submit anyway)

Lullaby Locker, Steel, and Homecoming

I was really too busy to do this round justice and didn’t start recording until Sunday night, so you get ‘em served raw. No drums track or anything fancy, just a couple of guitar tracks.

Necrosis

OK, I talked smack so here’s my submission. Hank is right, a minor flat-5 chord sounds like crap on a guitar, so I went with a hip-hop synth/piano/bass groove to start, then worked my way up to insane shredding slop-noise.

Southern Weather

I tried my hand at some Southern Rock…

Tonsillitis Blues

Well, in spite of having my tonsils removed on Tuesday, and this being a difficult round, I still got a submission in.

Raw Funky Juice

OK, I got “something” in this round. Funk means Wah, right? I’ve got a Jimi Hendrix style wah I used on this.

Chad Woolley's Fret War Round Two Submission: F'in Raw

This is all one take. I used my Boss RC-2 in auto mode (which I bought on Zed’s recommendation) to lay down the rhythm track with auto-drums, then soloed over it. Chords are exactly as specified, I just switched the 2nd and 3rd in each progression. My solo is just straight pentatonic slop improv with blue notes and major scales notes thrown in - cuz that’s about all I know how to do when I solo. Mostly licks I learned from southern rock songs. I start in a minor key, then go to major, then back to minor to end it. One thing I don’t like is that the drums are a little bit out of sync with my syncopated rhythm in measure six, but I think that’s the RC-2 messing up, I was on the beat :)
