Death of E

This was going swimmingly yesterday … tracked rhythm and drums at the same time in one take; was going to have this done in record time … then I started noodling over it and tragedy struck … my E broke. No other 0.10s laying around, no place close to go buy one, so it’ll wait till Monday — office is close to Guitar Center.

Nekid

Hmm, a tone round. Guess that means you should hear the guitar and not just production.

Demon Pin

One nasty, gritty open position riff coming up!

One Day

Hmm, didn’t I do my round last time? :)

Low Hanging Fruit

Make my own round? I took the easy way out, I picked the 1 major mode we haven’t done a round on Mixolydian.

The Munson's Over the Top Trick

1 Guitar, 1 Track … took 4 takes before I didn’t completely fail something …

A Promise Kept

I promised Ahsanul a little ‘Sweet Ass’ and failed to deliver in my original submission … but I keep my promises.

mellowD

Could have called this “Hank Noodles in Drop D” and been just as accurate.

Cheeky Nag

E Maj - > B Lydian

Lady In

I like Lydian, but even to me, whenever I play it, it comes off as a half assed impersonation of Joe Satriani — clearly he’s an influence of mine, but Lydian in particular it always seems blatant.

3 More

Last one, I promise … again using C Major, but taking F Dm and Bdim as the three chords ….

Lazy Sunday

Another 3 Chord in C Maj. This time, Am, G and Dm … So you have natural minor, Mixolydian and Dorian sounds happening.

My 80's are Showing

OK, the ‘Accuracy’ stuff …

Cork Veg Go Or

Over the 10 rounds or so that I’ve played, I’ve noticed that people tend to comment favorably on parts that aren’t really scripted and honestly aren’t that hard or solo laden … so since this is just a ‘Rock’ round, I decided to just groove a little on G pedal bass pattern.

Unit: 12A

Had a couple hours to play, so figured I’d do another just for fun. Plugged the good old 12 bar blues in A into the 880 and let it rip for a couple minutes. Then I started noodling over it and it took a while to come up with something interesting … I came to like what I’m using for the verse quite a bit, it alternates with the solo sections which are just standard blues faire …

Blaise Nu

So I dusted off (literally) the Boss DR-880 for this one. It has some really nice sounds and nice patterns in it — it handles all the rhythm. I just figured out some reasonably nice melodies in A and then grooved a little at the end. High art it’s not, but it was fun.

It's the Final Showdown

Dare I say this is anti-climactic? A 12 bar blues exchange after metal and industrial; but for what we’re doing with assembling the Magnum Opus track, the 12 bar blues is about as common ground as exists short of just pedaling over Em, Am, etc.

Solace, or is it Soulless?

Some of you likely saw my ‘bow out’ for this round on the round comments; yet here is a submission. I was in a fairly negative place when I wrote that, happens to everyone from time to time — so I did what I could to fix all the things I hated, I killed off the Ape Ass sounding bass, added some distortion and echo to the lead voice and gave it one more shot.

Blood Castle

Industrial. A lost genre for me, came to popularity after I quit playing, peaked and went back underground before I started caring again. So I had to do a little research for this one, closest thing I had in my collection was Shotgun Messiah with Tim Skold who went on to KMFDM for a while (as well as Marilyn Manson and other solo stuff), so I listened to some KMFDM, Ministry and a couple others, taking from the experience:
