Lynch's Hand Tremors In Agony

I don’t know, I guess I was channeling David Lynch on this one. Went all harmonic minor on it, worked a Major/Minor chord in there too, which I haven’t done before. And of course, for the round, lots and lots of effects and ear tingling and splitting fun.

Yeah Right, That's Mixo

I’m pretty sure this is mixolydian, but I just went with it and tried to play something over some chords. In this one, I just used my korg to lay down a simple hiphop beat, and then made shit up from there. I’m doing the chords, the bass, and the lead guitar. Bass is my cheapo SX bass. Rhythm guitar is the Comanche on the bridge pickup with a tiny bit of overdrive. Lead is the same guitar on the neck pickup with a fuzz pedal that I actually absolutely hate. Thing’s noisy as shit but it sounded cool with some reverb.

Simple Mixolydian

My recording gear just isn’t cooperating tonight so I just kept it simple. I played some chords to maintain a mixolydian mode, and then played some notes. That’s about it.

Riffs or Transcribe

In this proposed round we work out some riffs that work over common “vamps” in Jazz. These are sets of very common chords you’d find:

Alter Chords For Pentatonic Goodness

Continuing the three Fret War proposed rounds I thought up, I’m using the same chords, but this time we’re sticking in the key of G and doing a rock pentatonic the whole time.

Simple Major Pentatonic Over Two Keys

I thought up a general theme that could be used for about three Fret War rounds. The idea is to have a set of chords given in the round, but you have to do different things with them or to them.

An Evil Mutant Hybrid

So I’ve been learning some Country along with Jazz these days. Part of learning Country is learning to do hybrid picking, where you play bass notes with the pick but use your middle and ring finger for other strings. It’s also a great technique for Jazz too so I’ve been mixing it up between them and slowly getting to where I can pick out Jazz chords and songs using hybrid picking.

Craploose!

Yeah, I gave it my best shot, trying to do a slow country version of Footloose, and totally botching it. Good news is the new guitar sounds fucking great. This is just my Comanche and the reverb built into the DP- 008. That’s it. Picked some Rockabilly beat.

In No Time Tago

I’ve been listening to Can lately too. They’re funky right? Anyway, this is a “funk” “jazz” in free time (or sucky time) with a few effects and just two guitar parts. This is also with my G&L and like my other submission just a compressor pedal run into my DP-008.

Tele Funkay!

Ha, alright this is kinda ridiculous. So I’ve been studying hybrid picking and starting to get down some fun licks. They sound great on my G&L since it’s basically a souped up telecaster. I’m also transcribing and learning Grant Green tunes. Sooooooo….

Some Simple Jazzy Shit

I had actually worked out a little chord melody for “When Did You Leave Heaven”. Then I found out that song is still under copyright. Thanks Congress! Worked on that shit all week too.

Rockin' Hair, Rockin' Bends, Just Rockin'

Heh, well I had some fun with this. I spent the whole day working and doing non-guitar stuff and then late at night sat down for a few hours to do this. Tried some composing but just wasn’t feeling it this time around. Instead I just went and put something down.

Velveeta Smooth Jazz Surprise

I present to you, me playing bass, piano, and guitar on this track. I went with a Lydian melody with small solo sections. The bass line just mostly follows the chords played by the piano, which I kept simple so I could play my bass. And yes, that’s a real bass and me playing with my fingers not a pick.

Bit O Country

I did this one real quick before Breaking Bad came on. This is recorded in about 30 minutes, plus editing. It’s just some simple country chord strums with a basic country scale (mostly major pentatonics). The bass and drums are from the Alesis, and then guitar is still just my Blackheart and G&L.

Little Girl

This is a very simple song with just a ukelele and guitar. It’s meant to be sweet and fun, with the guitar playing a simple little melodic lead and the uke doing some simple rhythm with three chords. I call it little girl because it reminds me of a little girl I know.

Lucky 13

I don’t really know what I was going for here, mostly I was into using my amp for what it’s meant for, and then playing with some effects here and there.

An Etude in A

I was having problems with this etude in one of the books I’ve been going through. I originally planned on doing something totally different but then I realized this Etude is a major jazzy/bop style blues. It was originally in G, but I transcribed it up to A. I also tried a little of my own soloing on the last chorus, which didn’t come out quite that good.

By The Power Of My Monkey Paw Slide Hand, Die Wizard Die!

I busted out my slide and Fender in Open G for this one. Caleb is the slide and the Wizard Zed is your typical metal head overdrive. I purposefully threw some mistakes in for Zed like trying to play a diminished line over the wrong chord, and obviously the other mistakes I made not on purpose.

Now I Know How To Make Smooth Jazz

Apparently, if you’re an aspiring Jazz guy and you play Soul it’ll sound like Smooth Jazz.

Industrial Is Annoying

I listened to as much industrial metal as I could to do this one. What I came away with was that industrial metal is annoying, grating, distorted and not incredibly melodic.
