This is pretty cool. Some of those lessons are interesting. I’m checking some of them out right now. Actually, we could probably do this for the FretWar shed. Hmmm…
On a side-note, I’ve always thought of Vai’s Eugene’s Trick Bag as a great etude for mastering sweeps and alternate picking. Anybody else check it out?
Hah! You’re right. It’s depressing as hell, but I had to go back to it once a year for the first 3-4 years of my playing to keep tabs.
One thing I liked about it initially was how it included a passage from Paganini’s 5th caprice. But that’s about it. Vai didn’t extend it beyond the putting together a few sweeps with a 5th caprice passage. Still, loads of fun.
While we’re on the topic of etudes, do you go through anything in particular? Would love t know.
Hmm, note to Zed … don’t remember getting a notification for this post and there’s no timestamp so I don’t know how old Ahsanul’s last post is :)
I don’t have anything in particular that I play today etude-wise … many years ago when I took lessons, my teacher would balance between classical violin etudes and bebop stuff … honestly I never got very good at either as my head wasn’t in it … I was thinking rock/metal 24/7 and couldn’t grasp the forest through the trees. Nonetheless, some of it stuck.
I guess like most guys, I’ll thumb through the guitar mags in the grocery or book store and maybe buy one if something catches my eye. I will say that Steve Morse wrote some killer tutorials when he was with one of them …
